Programs
YMCA Soccer Boot Camp
The Reds have partnered with the YMCA for many years now to provide a “Soccer Boot Camp”. This program, designed for beginning players ages 7-13, runs twice a week for 4 weeks generally during the months of February and/or March. Sign up is directly through the YMCA and all proceeds go to the YMCA. The Reds players have done a great job in assisting with the Boot Camp. On most nights there are at least 4 Reds players assisting with the coaching. This is a great opportunity to introduce the game of soccer to your future soccer star! Attendees learn the game through fun soccer related activities. It is also an excellent opportunity for children to interact with the Reds players.
Valley Fellowship Clinic- New in 2009
In 2009 the Reds introduced a free soccer clinic in conjunction with Valley Fellowship Night. Valley Fellowship Night, sponsored by Oil Can Henry’s, was organized with a focus on the family. We wanted to make it extra special for the kids. The clinic was held from 2-4pm on June 13, 2009 before the Reds faced the Tacoma Tide. The clinic was designed for children ages 4-15. The clinic incorporated basic skills with the precision assistance of the Yakima Reds players. Most of the Reds players assisted with the clinic. Although we were somewhat concerned with how the players would respond to being in the heat before the game that evening, it seemed to energize them. Over 150 kids attended the clinic and interacted and received autographs from the players at the conclusion of the clinic. Every kid that attended received a free ticket to attend the game that evening with their family. The Reds players rewarded all who came to the game that evening by defeating the defending Northwest Division Champion Tacoma Tide 4-1. We plan on doing something similar in 2010.
