Yakima lower prices; open season ticket sales

The Reds cut a dollar off their single-game ticket and have announced a season-ticket plan for children, the first one in club history.
While adult season tickets are $40., children ages 6-12 will have their own season ticket rate: $20. Children 5 and under get in free. Children 13 and older have to pay regular rate if they want single or season tickets.
Buyers of a season-ticket package will receive a Major League Soccer-style scarf in the colors of the Yakima Reds. The scarves have a $15 value, said Alex Silva, the Reds’ technical director and head coach.
Single-game tickets have been reduced to $5, down from last year’s $6 price for adults.
The Reds have also started a group rate. Groups of up to 19 people pay the regular single-ticket price. Groups of 20 to 49 people pay $4.50 per ticket. Groups of 50 to 99 people pay $4 and groups larger than 100 pay $3 per ticket.
The new prices hope to entice more fans to Marquette Stadium, the concrete mastodon that seats 2,500 people and that last year had zero sellouts.
Lastly, Alex Silva, also co-owner of the Reds said the team will open the grassy areas behind the goals for fans who want to get closer to the action on the field. People who want these spots will have to bring their own chairs. Ticket prices will remain the same.
Tickets are available through Brown Paper Tickets (brownpapertickets.com) and in the next few days, they will also be available through the Reds’ new Web site.
The new Web site, the reduced prices are all part of a campaign to increase the awareness of the Reds among the Yakima soccer fans.
The season opener is May 1 at home versus the defending Northwest Division champions Kitsap Pumas. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
