Designer Web on board with Yakima Reds

The Yakima Reds Football Club is set to unveil a new Web site in January with the help of DesignerWeb, David Thomson, the company’s owner said.

The collaboration between the designers and the team sprung from the friendship between Yakima Reds co-owner Alex Silva and Thomson, both businessmen from the west side of the state.

DesignerWeb, its Web site www.designer-web.com states, was founded 12 years ago by Thomson himself  and it has focused its efforts to site development within the state of Washington. A five-member crew, composed of a creative director, two computer scientists and two University of Washington business school graduates round out  the company’s core team.

Thomson founded the company, the Web site states, from his garage. Two years after starting out, it became his full-time job.

The goal, the site states is to make the Internet fun and easy for everyone. When it comes to the Reds, Thomson said, the goal is to have a Web site that can compete with those of other USL football clubs and that can give fans a deeper level of access to the club.

For starters, the graphics will be all new, Thomson said. It will be more easily updateable and will have access to social networks, so that fans can keep track more easily of what goes on with the Reds. The Reds already have a Facebook page, so more similar endeavors are likely to come.

DesignerWeb will also sponsor the team at with in-game ads at Marquette Stadium and advertising on the site and at the stadium.

Right now, Thomson said material is being gathered and since the 2010 season does not start picking up steam until January, the Web site won’t be ready to be unveiled until mid-winter. The USL is not set to reveal its new schedule until then, as well.

Above all, Thomson said, he wants the fans to know the new Web site will be a more interactive experience than in the past. The Web site will no longer for the club to just post stuff, but a place where a give-and-take can take place with the fans.
